Good Friday & the Via Crucis Procession
Transfer from Sorrento to Naples train station for our rail to Rome this morning.
This afternoon Ancient Rome Tour followed by The Good Friday procession in Rome is the annual Via Crucis, or Way of the Cross, ceremony that takes place at the Colosseum. The procession is a re-enactment of Jesus' crucifixion, with participants carrying the cross and stopping to pray and listen to meditations. The procession is led by the Pope and is part of the pontiff's liturgical program for Holy Week.

This morning we will visit the Vatican Museums and Michelangelo's incomparable Sistine Chapel. Stroll through St. Peter's Square, passing Bernini's famous colonnade to St. Peter's Basilica. Stand in awe as you view
Michelangelo's Pieta.

The Easter Vigil Mass is celebrated in St. Peter's Square:
- The liturgy begins in darkness with the blessing of a new fire.
- Cardinals, bishops, and priests process through the basilica carrying lit candles to symbolize the light of Christ.
- The fire is used to light a large paschal candle, which represents the Risen Christ.
- The flame from the paschal candle is used to light all the candles in the church, symbolizing hope and joy.
- The church bells ring around midnight to celebrate the beginning of Easter morning.
